Besonderes Augenmerk wurde auf die Bemalung und individuelle Gestaltung der Figuren gelegt.

Von den ikonischen Metallskulpturen der 90er Jahre bis hin zur Anpassung verschiedener Teile, um individuelle Modelle zu erstellen oder Rollen darzustellen, für die es damals keine spezifische Miniatur gab.

1996 erweiterte Games Workshop sein Sortiment um spezielle Charakterminiaturen für die Dark Angels Space Marines. Die von Chefdesigner Jes Goodwin entworfenen, außergewöhnlichen Miniaturen sind wohl auch 30 Jahre später noch unübertroffen.

Mit Charaktermodellen kann ein Modellbauer seiner Kreativität freien Lauf lassen. Da man nicht die Uniformität eines Teams beibehalten muss, kann man komplexere Farbschemata ausprobieren und die Modelle mit Details anreichern. Die Miniaturen der Hauptquartiere und Space-Marine-Spezialisten waren bereits exzellent, aber es war ein Vergnügen, sie anzupassen oder einzigartige Modelle zusammenzustellen, wenn ein bestimmtes Modell noch fehlte.

Ein Space-Marine-Chapter kann ohne die ständige Arbeit seiner technischen und medizinischen Spezialisten nicht dauerhaft schlagkräftig bleiben. Techmarines und Apothecaries, die zu den ersten Miniaturen mit spezifischen Uniformen und Ausrüstungen gehörten, zählen bis heute zu den markantesten Modellen in jeder Armee der Todesengel.
